Okay, so the tree is not "fancy," per se. It is a Purple Leaf Smoke Tree. Why the talk of a tree?
Bought one!
There it sat on the shelf at the grocery store. $2.99! Granted, the roots and surrounding soil currently sit in a plastic bag and a bare stalk pokes up to the top of the package. With love and sun and protection from a 10 year-old mowing, it should grow and look fantastic, right?
According to Howard Garrett, the Dirt Doctor, Smoke Trees can tolerate drought and all kinds of well-drained soil. Eureka! Sounds like a good buy to me.
If it fails, I am out $2.99 and some time.
And, yes, I am the kind of fancy lady who impulse-buys plants.
